How long have you been in the freight forwarding business?
DP - 12 years
How did you get into the freight and logistics industry?
DP - A company invited me to an interview, when I was searching for my first job, after I've graduated from the university. I got the job and took it, since no other better choice at that moment.
What are the current difficulties or challenges you are facing in your country when it comes to shipping?
DP - Market is shrinking in Taiwan and business in Taiwan highly depends on the relations between Taiwan and China, especially now, when it’s not so smooth. In China we face the high cost to cause manufacturers moving out from China, and also the trade war with USA all affects the import/export in China.
For customs clearance in your country, any advice or guidelines you can provide to your future partners?
DP - Check with us first before you send any cargo especially, when it’s a new business. Some items need a license or an importer must get a permit first before import.
If you can change anything about the freight forwarding industry, what would it be?
DP - Every forwarder must keep a standard price of market and improve the service quality to win customers. Not just only to lower the price to gain customers, which results in a low profit industry for everyone.
What advice would you give to a person who is considering a career in the freight forwarding industry?
DP - Keep learning on everything and keep the passion for serving customers.
What is something you would like to us to know about your company?
DP - We provide USEFUL service. (Unitary, Simple and Safe, Economic, Full functioning, Unique, Leading)
Please tell us about your company. Where are your headquarters and when did you first establish the company?
DP - Taiwanese based company founded on 1984 as HQ in Taipei City Taiwan, we went to China in 1990’s and now we have offices in CN/TW/VN/KR.
What knowledge would you say is exclusive to project logistics professional? What does one need to learn before entering in to project logistics?
DP - To find and to use the resource needed in a project is the most important part. It involves a lot of different knowledge for different project work, but how you link all the resource in hand for a certain project is the key. So we have to focus on interpersonal relationship, after all our business is always about people.
What has been your most exciting shipment? What made it exciting?
DP - Every successful delivery should be exciting, no matter if it’s an easy or difficult job. As long as we finish it according to our plan and customers feel satisfied with saying a “thank youâ€. Most of all we got payment on time, this is the most exciting part.
Here is one of the special work, that was done for an airline crash of SQ at TPE airport. Pro-Logistics handled all the cleaning in a very short time to make airport runway back to normal function and arranged the warehousing of all the wreckage/evidence for the following investigation of authority concerned.
“We don’t like to handle any work like this one since it was indeed a terrible accident, but under a huge time pressure we organized all different resource to help SQ TPE solving the problem
and saving much money at airport without taking more daysâ€, said Derrick Peng, Assistant Manager & International Sales.
